Brazilian Jiu Jitsu requires concentration and promotes fast responses to an opponents body and It develops emotional control while improving the reflexes. It has also been defined as a game of chess that is played with the human body, where well-formulated rules preserve the physical integrity of students.
As an aerobic activity, it elevates the metabolism and improves both cardiovascular and respiratory capacity; and as a martial art, it develops special motor skill and fast reflexes. There is never a restriction on the practice, active men and women of all ages can practice the gentle art. BJJ is also a great option for those seeking to lose some weight and improve their muscle mass, since it is possible to eliminate anywhere from 750 to 1500 calories in one class! |
Besides the normal stresses and pulls associated with most martial arts, BJJ students (along with Wrestlers, Judoka, and other grapplers ) are prone to regular skin problems and potential unsanitary mat conditions in schools that don't practice clean and healthy atmospheres. At Fight Sports we always take pride in the cleanliness of our facility and follow all of the guidelines set by the UFC. Proper hygiene practices, including regular cleaning of the mats, students showering immediately after class with an antibacterial soap, disinfecting and covering any open wounds, thorough cleaning of any rash guard or headgear used before the next class, not sharing used towels/uniforms, and using a barrier cream greatly reduces the chance of contracting and the spreading of diseases.
